Sophie’s Path to Freedom

Labor Day was created to protect the dignity of work. But for victims of labor trafficking, work becomes a weapon used against them.

Sophie survived it.

Her trafficker smuggled her into the United States, promising safety and a future together. She believed she was starting a new life. Instead, she was deceived and trapped.

Forced to work long hours in a restaurant, Sophie never saw a paycheck. Every dollar she earned went straight to her trafficker. She was isolated, exploited, and afraid to speak out.

When federal authorities arrested her trafficker, Sophie was referred to AncoraTN. That’s when her recovery began.

With Ancora’s support and her own courage, Sophie reclaimed her freedom. She chose her own job. She finally started getting paid. Her dignity was restored.

As we celebrate Labor Day and honor workers’ rights, let’s remember those still waiting for theirs.
